My Deck Needed Something...

When we are not camping and at home on the weekends,
I am a house person!
I love piddling around the house.
From planting flowers to making wreaths and
just decorating, in general.

This past weekend was no different.
We planted flowers in the deck planters, put ferns in the front porch urns and added herbs to my herb gardens.
I had one problem...
we have this big blank wall on the back of my house that has been driving me crazy.
It was plain, boring, and empty.
It seemed heavy, if that makes any sense.

You can see the deck from the road so I really have to be
 careful what I put there.

I thought about hanging one of those big metal stars...

My house is very federal, so I thought that
would be a really good solution.
But, I really want my house to be different from everyone else.
So, after 3 years of looking at an empty boring wall, my husband remembered these really big set of  black shutters we had laying around....

Perfect!

I had to take the pictures so my baby girl
Sarah helped with the holding.

She wouldn't turn around since she didn't have her make up on. lol

I love them,
they just add the element that was missing!

I will be working on a wreath. I don't like that one...it needs some help.

I love the over all look!

  1. Looks good, Jennifer. It can be amazing as to what one little touch will do for the appearances of a place, whether it be a stix and brix or an RV.

Oh, and tell Sarah that I would bet she looks great even without makeup.

  3. Those shutters look terrific there! And they almost give the illusion of another door. I love your deck and the covered porch under it too!

  5. Hey that is a great idea, and you could always hang that star on the shutters for Memorial Day or the fourth of July or Labor day :) I am your newest follower. I hope you can visit me sometime too:)

  6. That's a good use for old shutters. It made your deck look livelier. What's even better is that you guys made it as a family. The metal star is a nice touch. :D

  7. I love what you did to your porch! I must say, you definitely have a good eye for decorating. I like how the black shutter contrasts sharply with the white paint of the wall. The colors pop out nicely. Keep us posted on what you did to your wreath, and always let your creativity thrive!

  9. So, that’s what’s been missing? The shutter made it look more perfect. Any plans of making this shutter functional? I know that will be a lot of work, but just saying. =) Gary @ UpAndAboveContractors.com
