Dealing With The Bugs, No Problem

When camping, we know that we have to deal with bugs.
I hate them all with a burning passion!
With that said,
here are a few of ways we have learned to deal with them.

First, there is the bug spray.

If we are picnicking or hiking deep in the woods, this is my choice.
I always make sure it has Deet in it.
I do hate the way the spray smells and feels when applied, but it works.
Now there are wipes, and I like this a lot better. If you are not careful and keep the package closed, they will dry out.
So even if I buy these, I keep the spray on hand.

When we are just hanging near the camper,
we use the citronella candles. They help, but are very limited.

Another good tip is to avoid perfumes or lotions with scents while you are camping.
Bugs are drawn to scents.

I also love this bar of soap my friend Lorie makes.
It is called the Rover Soap. It is all natural and really good for your skin.
Read more about it

Here
I keep a bar of this in the house and camper.
When I wash my hands with this, it repels bugs naturally.

My last tip and my favorite bug remedy,
 is a good ol' campfire.

Just can't be beat!

Oh my Goodness,  I have to have these papers!
I just found this video on one of my favorite blogs
and I had to share.

Keeping Up With the Remotes

This could possibly be the shortest tutorial in history of blogs.

This tip is so easy....

put  velcro on the back of your remote,
and stick it to the wall near your TV.
Horrible photo...but you get the idea!

It will be "hanging around" when you pull into your next site...and no more,
"WHERE'S THE REMOTE?!!!

Next Year, Lord Willing and The Creek Don't Rise

Next year I am going to
do my very best to travel to this!!

My blog Hero, Marian from

participates in this fair every year.
I have been watching her posts the past few days, wishing I could have gone.
She is probably one of the most creative women in the blogging community to date.
Creativity just seems to comes naturally to her.
She has this style that is so french and yet, livable and comfortable.

She brings all of her creations to this one fair and only once a year.

This is a photo from her blog of her booth at the Lucketts Fair

I just love a good flea market.
My husband and
I do our best to go to Hillsville, Va. every Labor day week-end
for their massive Flee Market. It covers the entire town and
we love it.

So next year,
my goal is to pack the camper and head to Lucketts!

A Visitor In Our Creek

Yesterday was such a beautiful day that we decided to have our Sunday Dinner on the deck.
While we were out there, my son-in-law Shane, spots something moving in the creek below.

It was this monster....
A huge snapping turtle.
It has to be the largest turtle I have ever seen around here.
I wonder how long they live?
He seemed so old.
He was at least 18 inches long, from tip to tail.
His shell was every bit of 12" long.
Isn't he cool?!
